Notes:
Big loss for Big Brown he stranded just after the start Nobody would have been surprised if Big Brown created a history by winning the American Triple Crown He had set victory in the 2008 Kentucky Derby and 2008 Preakness Stakes in style and was a hot-favori te contender for the third jewel of Triple Crown the Belmont Stakes. But everything went wrong for Big Brown at the ultimate hour of the race. His front left hoof was patched up due to a small crack just before the day of the Belmont racing. He was also not given the monthly dose of injection. Whatever be the cause, Big Brown suddenly ran slow and walked through the track. It is really disappoint ing to get the last position for a fighter like Big Brown. In the fourth race of his career, the 2008 Kentucky Derby, Big Brown was the 5-2 favorite and became the first horse since 1929 to set a win starting from the 20th gate. He is the first horse to register win on only three starts in the Kentucky Derby since 1915. Big Brown has shown his character in his debut race itself. Everyone was literally perplexed when a reddish brown muscular thoroughbr ed sprinted to victory in it s debut race at Santa Anita Racecourse during 2007 spring meet. When rider Jeremy Rose started the race by pulling silky black mane of Big Brown, nobody paid attention but after setting victory he was applauded by all. Sired by Boundary and dam Mien, Big Brown was bred at Dr. Gary B. Knapp s Monticule Farms in Lexington. Brooklyn purchased Big Brown for 190,000 at the 2007 Keeneland April Two-Year-O lds in training sale, but was restricted to the sidelines due to foot injury.
