Notes:
The road to a W. L. Proctor S. victory appears to run through the Doug O Neill barn, as the trainer has four of the six entered, including first-time starter Litigation Road. And three of O Neill s runners are owned by Reddam Racing LLC, which teamed with the barn to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby and Preakness with I ll Have Another. Jockey Mario Gutierrez, who partnered with I ll Have Another for his unbeaten sophomore season, has the return engagement on Bad Read Sanchez, who is named for one of owner J. Paul Reddam s golfing pals. The son of Warrior s Reward had a stellar debut last month in which he romped by 10 lengths over seven rivals at Santa Anita. Gutierrez also piloted Wake Up Nick to a runaway debut victory on May 1 when the son of Cindago galloped to a 9 -length score against five foes at Santa Anita. And Gutierrez was aboard when the colt, who is named for another Reddam golfing buddy, came back to capture the Santa Anita Juvenile S. on June 22 in his second start. Firster Litigation Road completes the Reddam trio and will have the services of jockey Elvis Trujillo, who is winning at an 18 clip for the barn. Henry s Holiday rounds out O Neill s personal superfecta here. The Success Racing color-bearer impressed when launching his career in May with a Santa Anita maiden triumph but was no match for Wake Up Nick when fourth next out in the Santa Anita Juvenile. Trainers Dan Hendricks and Scott Rollins take on the O Neill quartet with Story to Tell and Peradventure, respectively. The former was sharp when winning his initial outing and was flattered when the runner-up from that came back to break his maiden on July 9 at Indiana Grand Race Course. In his next race, Story to Tell closed well for place money behind Wake Up Nick in the stakes. Peradvanture makes the quickest turnaround of this bunch, having easily defeated statebred maidens on June 27 at Santa Anita.
