Steve Asmussen is an American Thoroughbr ed reacehorse trainer. Asmussen hails from a horse racing family. Both, mom and dad train horses. Older bro, cash Asmussen is a retired jockey of fame, winning the Eclipse Award. Steve Asmussen learned the art of horse rearing from his parents in his childhood days. Keeping the wish in mind to become a jockey, Asmussen took out jockey s license at 16. Rode three successful years in New Mexico, California and New York and took retirement thereafter to concentrat e solely on training. He commenced his training career in 1986 training Thoroughbr eds in New Mexico. Asmussen had set 407 victories in 2002 to register a record of 400 single season s win as trainer. He set a new record in 2004 with 555 wins as a trainer. He trained Curlin, 2007 Preakness Stakes winner. Curlin managed the 3rd spot in 2007 Kentucky Derby and 2nd spot in 2007 Belmont Stakes. He was rewarded the title - Lone Star s Hall of Fame - in 2007. In 2008, he received the Eclipse Award for Outstandin g Trainer.
