His wife is Liliana and the couple has three children namely Patricia, Edgar Jr., and Luis. His father was trainer in Peru while his brother Jorge is a former jockey and now trainer in Maryland. His other brother Anibal is a jockey at Philadelphia Park.

He is a U.S. Racing Fall of Fame Jockey specializing in thoroughbred horse racing. He became the 19th Jockey in thoroughbred racing history to win 5,000 races. Pardo rode to victory in the 132nd Kentucky Derby 6 inches ahead of the second finisher on May 6, 2006. This was the largest margin of victory since 1946. His racing accomplishments include victories in the 2002 and 2004 Belmont Stakes.
