Fair Grounds Race Course
Fair Grounds Race Course History Fair Grounds Race Course was established in 1852 as the Union race Course. In 1857, the racetrack was closed down due to tough competition with the Metairie Course. In 1859, the ground was christened Carole Race Course that was again changed to Fair Grounds. The first race took place at the Fair Grounds under patronage of Louisiana Jockey Club in 1872. Colonel Matt Winn arrived in New Orleans for establishing racing dates and other matters in the Louisiana horse industry.

How to get there:
Fair Grounds Race Course is approximately 10 minutes from Central Business District and French Quarter approximately 20 minutes from New Orleans International Airport less than five minutes from Interstate 610 which connects with Interstate 10 East and West. From the East (Slidell, Mississippi) Take I-10 West to I-610 West. Exit Paris Avenue and turn left. Turn right at Gentilly Boulevard Fair Grounds is approximately 1 mile ahead on the right. From the West (Metairie, Kenner, Baton Rouge) Take I-10 East to I-610 East. Exit St. Bernard Avenue and turn right. Turn right at Gentilly Boulevard Fair Grounds is approximately 1/2 mile ahead on the right. From Downtown/ French Quarter travel northbound on Esplanade Avenue to north Broad Avenue and turn right. You will have to pass the intersection with Bayou Road, enter the left turn lane for Gentilly Boulevard and turn left. If you follow the bend on Gentilly, you will be mile ahead on the left. From Westbank Cross the Crescent City connections and follow signs I-10 East. You will have to exit Esplanade Avenue and turn left. Now, you need to travel northbound on Esplanade Avenue to North Broad Avenue and turn right. Just past the crossing with Bayou Road, enter the left turn lane for Gentilly Boulevard and turn left. From this, you will have to follow the bend on Gentilly and you will find Fair Ground nearly mile ahead on the left.
