Penn National History On September 27 2006, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in Harrisburg, Pa., approved a permanent Category 1 slot machine license for the track s parent company Penn National Gaming, Inc. The original Penn National Race Course grandstand opened with a crowd of 10,686 on August 30,1972. It hosted its final live racing program on April 8, 2006.

From York and Baltimore. Follow Interstate 83 North to Harrisburg. Take I-81 North to exit 80. At top of ramp, turn left. Penn National is approximately 1/2 mile on right. From Lancaster. Take Route 283 North to Route 743 at the Elizabethtown/Hershey Exit. At end of ramp, turn right. You will be heading in the direction of Hershey. Stay on Route 743 as it winds through Hershey. The Penn National is located on Rte. 743, approximately 9 miles from Hershey. From Harrisburg. Follow 1-81 North to exit 80. At top of ramp, turn left. Penn National is located approximately 1/2 mile on right. From Reading. Take Interstate 183 (Airport Road) North to Route 78. Follow 78 West onto Interstate 81 South. Take exit 80 off of 81. At top of ramp, turn right. Penn National is located approximately 1/2 mile on right. From Philadelphia. Take Pennsylvania Turnpike north to exit 19 (Harrisburg). Proceed north on 1-283 to 1-81 North. Take 1-81 North to exit 80. At top of ramp, turn left. Track Penn National is approximately 1/2 mile on right.
