Notes:
Nakatani was a champion high school wrestler who got interest in racing after watching a couple of races at Santa Anita. He approached trainer Roger Stein and learnt the art of riding horse within three days. After that he moved to the Thoroughbred farm of agent Tony Matos for learning the technique of roping. He completed his graduation from jockey school in Castaic, California and started his career at Caliente in Mexico in 1988. Though he won his first race on Blue King, it was originally a dead heat. Nakatani changed his tack to Southern California in 1989 and won meet titles at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, Del Mar and Oak Tree. He won the Kentucky Oaks two times in 1991 by riding Lite Light and in 1996 with Pike Place Dancer. He managed to win four Strub Stakes including three consecutive races in 1999, 2000 and 2001. He won four winners on the Memorial Day card on May 29, 2006 at Hollywood park. He performed brilliantly in the Shoemaker Breeders Cup Mile. He is an avid golfer, he carries a three handicap.
