He is a noteworthy jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. He began riding at the age of 11 and worked back then as a stable boy. Talamo first started racing at a bush track. He made his debut in June 2006 and became the first apprentice jockey to have won a riding title at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans. In 2007 he became the second leading jockey during the Hollywood Park Racetrack meet that year. He was also voted for the Eclipse Award and the 2007 United States Champion Apprentice Jockey.
