He came to the Kentucky circuit in 1996 and tried his luck in thoroughbred racing. Albarado registered his first stakes victory in 1993 Grady Madden Memorial Stakes on Tuck s Honey Bear. In 1995, he made a first graded stakes Stars and Stripes Handicap victory at Arlington Park with Snake Eyes. At the historic Churchill Downs, Albarado won first Grade 1 race riding on Joyeux Danseur in the Early Times Turf Classic. He had to stay out of the field for nearly seventeen months during 1998 and 99 due to two skull fractures. It was a massive damage that required the replacement of his skull with titanium mesh and polymer. Albarado earned victory in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park and he was a regular rider of 2003 Horse of the Year Mineshaft too. He posted 3000th win on December 9, 2004 at Fair Grounds riding Isle of Silver.
