The Distaff Handicap is the popular grade II horse racing event that is restricted to three year old fillies and mares. The contenders gallop a distance of 6 Furlongs to win the purse of 150,000. In the years 1954 and 1955 this race was run at Old Aqueduct and in Belmont Park from 1956 to 1959. In the year 1964 it was run in two divisions. In 1977, 1978, 1979, 1984, and 1994 the race was run in 6 Furlongs, but in 1993 it had to be cancelled due to inclement weather.
