Notes:
Super Ninety Nine, a runaway winner of the G3 Southwest S. over this track last month, returns to take on two rivals from that contest and eight new faces for a piece of the 600,000 purse and 85 Kentucky Derby qualifying points awarded to the top four finishers on a 50-20-10-5 basis. The Bob Baffert trainee will have to overcome the extreme outside post and use every bit of his early speed if he s to wire this field like he did in the Southwest. He figures to be challenged for the lead by former stablemate Title Contender, who will be making his 1 st start for Wayne Catalano after running 2 nd here in a 1 1/16m OC 62500n1 on 2/17. G3 Lecomte champ Oxbow breaks from between those two in the 10-hole and also should be fowardly-placed early. D. Wayne Lukas charge was caught late when last seen in the G2 Risen Star S. at Fair Grounds but finished 4 th only half a length behind surprise winner Ive Struck a Nerve. Of the speed horses, Delhomme drew the most favorable post - 4 - for his seasonal debut. He ended his juvenile campaign with a close 3 rd in the G2 Remsen S. at Aqueduct. Another Lukas trainee, Will Take Charge, won the Smarty Jones S. over this course in January with a stalking trip then showed nothing in the sloppy Southwest. Texas Bling won the Springboard Mile as 2-year-old then missed by just a neck in the Smarty Jones. Like Will Take Charge, he finished up the track in the Southwest. Den s Legacy gives Baffert a stalking threat if Super Ninety Nine fails. He was no match for stablemate Flashback in the G2 Robert Lewis S. at Santa Anita and makes his first start outside of California after amassing a 10-2-5-1 record in the Golden State. Carve, who was claimed from his winning debut by Steve Asmussen, rated nicely to beat the more experienced Title Contender when making his 2 nd start in that optional claiming contest. Treasury Bill is another California invader in the field and should be rolling late as he makes his 2-turn debut off a 2 nd in the G2 San Vicente S. at Santa Anita. Deep closer Stormy Holiday was a bit of a surprise entrant and should get the pace set up and added distance he needs for his graded stakes debut. The inconsistent Hardrock Eleven comes off the worst whipping of his life, having barely lifted a hoof in the Risen Star.
