Notes:
Southern California s signature event for 3-year-olds is the final west coast opportunity for Kentucky Derby contenders to pick up valuable points to qualify to run for the roses. A seemingly well-matched group will battle for 100-40-20-10 points going to the top four finishers plus a piece of the 750,000 purse. Trainer Bob Baffert sends out a trio of runners topped by 9/5 morning line favorite Flashback. The handsome gray/roan has impressed onlookers with his works since finishing a close 2 nd as the even money favorite last out in the G2 San Felipe S. on 3/9. Baffert s Super Ninety Nine also disappointed supporters in his last race, the G2 Rebel S. at Oaklawn Park on 3/16. He was a distant 5 th that day but sports nice works since returning to the Golden State. Power Broker, last seen running 5 th for Baffert in the G1 Breeders Cup Juvenile last November, makes his long-awaited seasonal debut after suffering a number of setbacks in his sophomore campaign. He attracts regular pilot Bejarano, who has also been aboard Super Ninety Nine. Hear the Ghost, Flashback s conqueror in the San Felipe, is the 2 nd choice in the morning line and has improved his BRIS Speed Ratings in each of his three starts for Hall of Fame conditioner Jerry Hollendorfer. They ll all have to hold off deep closer Tiz a Minister, who nearly caught the top two in the San Felipe while earning a whopping 118 BRIS Late Pace Rating. Joe Talamo picks up the mount as Garret Gomez moves to Flashback. Dual stakes winner Goldencents set the San Felipe pace before weakening to 4 th , though he was only beaten 2 lengths for the whole thing. Summer Exclusive showed nice tactical speed when winning at 1 st asking against a full field here on 3/2. Storm Fighter broke his maiden on the same card when stretching out for the 1 st time, but did so against statebreds. Dirty Swagg is ambitiously-spotted after finishing last, 27 lengths behind Goldencents, in the G3 Sham S. in early January.
The Santa Anita Derby is considered to be The Great Race at the Great Race Place It is special feature race televised on NBC rated as a Grade 1 horse racing event. It is held annually at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California and has a purse value of 750,000. Three year old horses that can cover a distance of 9 furlongs may be eligible to race in this Kentucky Derby Prep Race.
